10th Meeting of the AEWA Technical Committee Print

As Observer, OMPO participated in the 10th Meeting of the AEWA Technical Committee which took place from 12-16 September 2011 in Naivasha on the invitation of the Government of Kenya (Kenya Wildlife Service).

56 topics were examined among which species conservation status, Single Species Action Plans, draft Action Plan for Africa, disturbance, look-alike species, hunting harvest, global warming…

The study of some 2,000 pages of documents, in English most often, requires months of work and is not convenient, some being only released a few days before the meeting.

Each of its 25 members is supposed to read, analyze and propose changes or corrections directly to the Secretariat via a dedicated workspace on the Website of AEWA.

Let us recall that the Technical Committee is working on a program set by the previous MOP Meeting of the contracting Parties.

Since the Agreement came into force, OMPO participated in four Meetings of the Parties (MOP) and in 9 out of 10 Technical Committee meetings.

The 10th Technical Committee was the last major step before MOP5 which will take place in France at La Rochelle from 14 to 18 may 2012.

OMPO, being a permanent ambassador of the Agreement, is working at the preparation of the event as a member of the Organizing Committee and contributes to the liven up of side-events on international cooperation and management of migratory birds.
